Windows subsystem for Linux

Windows subsystem for Linux

More recently, the Linux and Windows operating systems were for most of you completely different workspaces, since they originally had different structures and for which, the work in these two OSs was mainly for those who had a real need for it. On the one hand - it was, as if convenient, since either you work in one operating system, or in another, but the water in terms of how to implement it on one computer - it was not entirely practical. It is for this reason that Microsoft decided to create an application called Windows subsystem for Linux, which, in turn, is ready to allow any of you to run applications for Linux, directly from the Windows environment. That's just not all PC users know how to implement these capabilities of their "Windows", that's why, we decided to share this information with you so you can understand how everything is started and how it works.

How to activate Windows Subsystem for Linux?

First of all, we suggest you use the PowerShell console running on behalf of the Administrator, where you simply register the following command: "Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature -Online -FeatureName Microsoft-Windows-Subsystem-Linux".

But it also happens that the PowerShell console for some reason may not be available to the user, in this situation, we propose to go through the following path: go to "Control Panel" → open "Programs and components" → select "Turning the components on and off Windows "→ find the item" Windows subsystem for Linux "and put a check mark in front of it → we apply the changes by clicking on the" OK "button.

Now, you must reboot the Windows 10 operating system in order for the changes to take effect and only after that, we suggest you go to the Microsoft Store in order to download and then install one of the distributions that you will use in future.

Once you have installed the distribution, you will immediately be able to run the application.

The launch of the application itself is done using the "Command line", where you can hammer in the name of the application and authorize its launch, or, use the "Start" menu, where you will also see the application you have installed.

Thus, Windows subsystem for Linux is deployed in a matter of minutes, since running and installing the application is a short process, after which, you have the opportunity to work in one operating system, but at the same time, manipulate applications that intended for two completely different OS.
